• Oversees departmental and divisional research administration for the Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute and the Department of Surgery’s Division of Surgical Research accounts (as well as other areas as-needed) by overseeing, developing and managing budgets for academic, administrative, research, clinical trial and gift accounts.• Oversees operating and discretionary fund accounts (RFC, endowments, gifts, program development, start-up, etc.)• Administers all aspects of departmental and divisional research activities including, but not limited to: advising faculty on the development of grants; identifying grant funding application opportunities, develops competitive research grant budgets; interprets/enforces grant agency policies, procedures and protocols; supervises internal approval processes for all research grant applications and clinical trial applications; develops/maintains database for all bio-sketch and other support materials, oversees fiscal administration of awards and acts as a liaison with grant agencies to oversee fiscal administration of awards, process salary adjustments, provide projections, reconcile budgets and coordinate extension and closing of grant accounts.• Responsible for the administration of pre- and post- award support for research grant applications for faculty as well as for collaborative grants including the overall responsibility for the completion/assembly of the budget sections of applications, production of final applications, completion of institutional information and submitting applications to agencies; responsible for developing and submitting reports to Institute and Department administration as well as federal and state agencies.• Responsible for the human resource administration of faculty and staff including, but not limited to: recruitment, hiring, immigration, orientation, annual/semi-annual reviews, salary increases, dispute resolution, discipline and termination; supervising the administration of temporary faculty/staff such as visiting professors, volunteers and the management of the summer student outreach program.• Oversees all operational aspects of research residents, graduate student and medical student education in the Institute by developing strategies and outlines with the Principal Investigators of each laboratory. Interfaces with the Department of Surgery Office of Education, theGMEOffice, the Bursar’s Office andSSOMstudent affairs where appropriate; ensures the training of these individuals with regard to Loyola’s safety policies, Institute protocols and tuition payments for trainees.• Manages two T32 Institutional Training Grants – appointment/termination forms, quarterly meetings, bi-annual and annual trainee progress reports and annualRPPRreports to theNIH, preparation of tables, renewal applications, etc.• Responsible for the administration of core equipment, space, LabAlert freezer alarm system, renovation and construction within the Institute, including, but not limited to: overseeing the maintenance of core equipment; developing and maintaining a planned equipment replacement schedule; preparing necessary space utilization reports and equipment inventories; as well as coordinating and contributing to the design, development and implementation of space needs.• Manages the electronic information and computing systems within the Institute to ensure that the Institute remains up-to-date with the technologies available in the information technology and research arena.• Formulates strategic planning and marketing goals for research to advance the interests and the image of the Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute and other areas served; also includes the oversight of website updates, Seminar Series (BSTRI& the Alcohol Research Program) and the development of other promotional tools such as workshops and publications.• Maintains professional skills enhancement by attending appropriate training courses/ seminars on various topics which are relative to a Research Administrator.Qualifications:- Ability to communicate verbally.- Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner.- Ability to maintain confidentiality.- Ability to compose letters and memorandums.- Ability to deal calmly and courteously with people.- Ability to deal with stressful situations.- Ability to analyze and interpret data.- Ability to function independently and manage own time and work tasks.- Ability to work as an effective team member.- Ability to lead work teams.- Ability to organize workflow.- Ability to plan, coordinate and develop multiple projects.- Ability to compile complex reports and develop presentations.- Skilled job requiring high level of adaptability & interpersonal skills.- Ability to interact with internal and external constituents.
