By imagining and executing on ambitious packages and stories, bringing in highly relevant and exciting writers, and helping shape the voice and vision for the brand, this role is integral to cementing and communicating Bon Appetit’s ethos, making sure our loyal audience keeps coming back for more great content as well as bringing in new audiences. We know these high-impact stories drive earned media, garner interest from advertisers and award recognition, and turn into valuable IP for future projects, from podcasts to OTT shows. Honing and building on this ambitious content will allow us to further grow our brand and set us apart from our competitors in the crowded food landscape. Job Description The Bon Appetit Features Director will work closely with the Deputy Editor and Editor in Chief to build a vision for and execute on BA’s print issues, with a particular focus on overseeing big features and packages, essays, and reported stories. In this role, the Features Director will conceptualize, edit, and assign high-impact, ambitious stories and packages for the magazine, in addition to helping to set and standardize the brand’s vision and voice, working across teams to bring them to life and seeing them through to ensure they’re reaching the most audiences across all platforms ( bonappetit.com , social channels, newsletter). The Features Director will also coach and mentor Bon Appetit staff to help them grow as writers and editors, work closely with the Digital Editorial Director to conceive ambitious digital packages and stories, and work with editorial leadership to explore and build out special projects and new initiatives. Primary responsibilities (85%) Work with Deputy Editor, EIC, and other editorial leadership to set vision and lineups for BA’s print issues Own ambitious print packages and stories for each issue, whether executing them or overseeing/assigning and helping shape them Assign and edit stories for every issue Assign and edit longform reported features and personal essays for the magazine with a focus on bringing in big and exciting names and driving relevance Coach and mentor BA and Epicurious staff with the goal of growing their pitching, writing, and editing skills Think big-picture about the magazine, conceptualizing and executing on long-term vision and goals and planning ahead for ambitious long-lead coverage Take a lead on brainstorming and conceptualizing themed issues and special projects for print, ensuring new initiatives are in line with brand vision and voice Work with digital team to bring Well stories 360, ensuring they bring in audiences across all platforms Additional responsibilities (15%) Write longform reported features, personal essays, and other stories as pitched/assigned Working closely with Digital Editorial Director, edit longform culture stories and packages for bonappetit.com Working with editorial leadership, help explore and execute on new initiatives and special projects as they arise Brainstorm and create content that lives across all platforms The expected base salary range for this position is from $111,000 – $200,000.
