The Center for State Fiscal Reform at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) seeks a Research Manager. The Center for State Fiscal Reform provides policymakers with dependable economic and fiscal policy research to solve public policy challenges and produce better economic outcomes for all Americans. To achieve its goal of enhancing economic competitiveness and sound fiscal policy in the states, the Center for State Fiscal Reform provides original research, expert testimony, and best practices in the areas of tax, budget, and pension reform policy. Founded in 1973 on the principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism, ALEC is the nation’s largest voluntary, nonpartisan, individual membership organization of state legislators and provides a forum for members of the public and private sectors to address challenges facing Americans across the country. As the Research Manager, you will interact with state legislators and legislative staff, speak with government affairs leaders and business owners and learn from issue area experts. Typical responsibilities for the role include:Policy research, analysis, and summationDrafting and editing timely op-eds, blog posts, and research publicationsPresenting research findings at state issue briefings and legislator academiesRepresenting the Center at coalition meetingsAssisting with logistics for Center events and completing administrative tasks To succeed in the role, you must be detail-oriented and a self-starter, work well under pressure and possess a customer service mentality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude are also keys to success. Finally, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to the ALEC mission of promoting the Jeffersonian principles of limited government, free markets, and federalism.
