Principal Electrical Engineer

PROCEPT BioRobotics is a surgical robotics company enabling better patient care by developing transformative solutions in urology. With an initial focus on BPH, the company’s AquaBeam® Robotic System delivering Aquablation therapy, is the first FDA-cleared, automated surgical robot for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Aquablation therapy combines real-time, multi-dimensional imaging, automated robotics and heat-free waterjet ablation for targeted, controlled, and immediate removal of prostate tissue. Aquablation therapy offers predictable and reproducible outcomes, independent of prostate anatomy, prostate size or surgeon experience. SUMMARYThe Principal Electrical Engineer works within the Electrical Engineering group within the R&D Capital Equipment department. The position will be responsible for developing electrical systems for PROCEPT’s electro-mechanical products, including electronics feasibility, requirements definition, design, design verification, test system development, manufacturing procedure development, and production transfer activities at various stages of the product development cycle. Development will be conducted in accordance with PROCEPT’s quality system.CORE RESPONSIBILITIESDesign, develop, test, maintain, and document electrical systems for PROCEPT’s products in accordance with PROCEPT’s quality system.Define electrical specifications, ensuring the specifications align with overall product and system specifications.Ensure designs consider mechanical and software interactions, as well as testability, manufacturability, usability.Conduct research and prototyping activities to assess the feasibility of new product designs and the ability to meet requirements.Perform risk analyses, dFMEA, of the electrical systems and document the results.Document the electrical design with hardware requirements specification, hardware design descriptions, drawings and specifications, including component specifications.Develop design verification plans, protocols, test methods, and test reports. Release documents though Engineering Change Orders via Document Control Develop manufacturing procedures, fixtures, and test systems, ensuring suitability for production transfer.Participate in product design and development reviews and product phase reviews. Provide input for project schedules. Maintain knowledge of multiple electronics parts of the system, including existing and developing productsProvide mentorship to less experienced engineers on the team Assist with troubleshooting/debugging engineering problems including failure analysis.Occasionally provide support for sustaining work on existing products.May be asked to coordinate agency testing for UL, CE, and other certifications (ie. IEC 60601).Occasionally function as a subject matter expert for EE in regulatory audits Maintain trained status for, and comply with, all relevant aspects of the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality Management System to ensure product and support regulatory compliance.Understand and adhere to the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality and EHS policies.QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Certifications)To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While our ranges are posted, the exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, location or comparison to other employees already in similar roles. In addition to base salary, our positions are eligible for variable compensation through one of our incentive plans as well as equity compensation based on role and level.
