DescriptionSummary:The Acute Trauma Medical Surgical unit is a 40-bed mixed unit on the 5th floor. This unit cares for the medical monitored patients as well as traumatic injuries transferred from the ICU and Emergency Department. It also specializes in post-operative care of patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and urologic procedures. The unit is known for being “The Center of Excellence” for the care of bariatric surgery patients. For the 40-bed unit, there is usually 3-4 PCTs scheduled each shift for nursing support. There is a Mobility Technician from the Physical Therapy Department that is assigned to the Acute Trauma Medical Surgical unit to assist patients with becoming mobilized. The unit also has a certified wound care nurse who makes rounds on every patient weekly to ensure wound care is covered.A Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. In addition, the Registered Professional Nurse prescribes, delegates, coordinates, supervises and evaluates patient teaching and the activities of the ancillary nursing personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. The Registered Nurse is able to provide direct and indirect care to patients.Requirements:A.Education/SkillsGraduate of a State Board accredited School of Nursing or equivalent.B.ExperienceSix (6) months acute hospital experience preferred.C.
