A major new investment is coming to workforce development in the Bronx. The Bronx Green Jobs Center, led by Fordham University, has received $2.5 million in new funding to help complete a new training and career hub focused on New York's growing green economy.
The funding includes $1.5 million from Con Edison and $1 million from the Office of Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. The center is being developed at 585 East Fordham Road and is expected to begin on-site programming in early 2027.
What is the Bronx Green Jobs Center?
The Bronx Green Jobs Center is being created as a workforce training, employment and entrepreneurship hub designed to connect Bronx residents with careers in clean energy and other environmentally focused industries.
A former industrial building is being transformed into a more than 12,000-square-foot facility that will include:
- Hands-on training labs
- Classroom and event space
- A green entrepreneurship center
- A community-facing café
- Employment and career services
The first-floor event and classroom area funded in part by Con Edison is expected to accommodate up to 200 people for job fairs, training sessions and community events.

The center is expected to begin with several training tracks tied to industries that are expanding as New York invests in cleaner energy infrastructure.

The project has attracted millions in public and private investment
The latest $2.5 million is not the center's first major funding award.
In 2025, the New York City Economic Development Corporation selected Fordham as the first recipient of its Greenlight Innovation Fund, awarding $3 million toward the project.
Earlier in 2026, the Bronx Green Jobs Center and The Knowledge House also received $1.4 million through a New York State clean-energy workforce development initiative.
Combined with the newly announced funding, these major publicly announced awards total approximately $6.9 million.
When will the Bronx Green Jobs Center open?
Construction is currently nearing completion, with the latest Fordham update indicating that work should be completed in early 2027.
Training and other on-site programming are expected to begin shortly afterward.
