In this role, you will investigate pesticide-related incidents and potential violations, inspect pesticide businesses, agencies, applicators and distributors, and evaluate compliance with New York State and federal pesticide regulations. Responsibilities also include pesticide-use observations, inspections of storage areas and application equipment, reviews of agricultural operations under the Federal Worker Protection Standard, permit reviews, and pesticide certification and recertification activities.
The position involves working with databases and spreadsheets, preparing and presenting technical information, communicating with the public and regulated organizations, and providing pesticide-related guidance and outreach.
Minimum qualifications:
Candidates may qualify for the Trainee 1 level with a bachelor's degree in an eligible science, agriculture, environmental, engineering or natural-resources field. More advanced appointment levels require relevant pesticide-applicator experience and certification.
Applicants must be able to meet the transportation requirements of the position and maintain a valid driver's license. The role may involve field work, difficult terrain, adverse weather, remote locations, use of personal protective equipment, emergency response, occasional overtime, weekends or overnight travel, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds.
This is a full-time position with a salary range of $56,183–$88,970 per year. Telecommuting may be available for up to 50% of the work schedule.
