Our client, a prominent and rapidly scaling alternative asset management platform specializing in private equity and private credit, is seeking a Tax Director to oversee all fund tax compliance and reporting functions. This high-visibility leadership role partners closely with fund controllers, administrators, and external advisors, and offers direct succession potential to the Head of Tax. The position encompasses structuring, planning, compliance, and special project execution, with exposure across US and international tax jurisdictions and the opportunity to drive technological process improvements and operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
Own the tax return workpaper preparation process for fund entities, providing accurate documentation for service providers and K-1/return delivery
Lead federal and state tax compliance for private equity funds, intermediary vehicles, and related entities, overseeing quarterly and annual filings and managing third-party vendors
Prepare and deliver quarterly income estimates to investors and internal professionals; manage and validate up-to-date fund and investment tax basis analysis
Partner with external tax service providers to review workpapers, tax returns, and all tax reporting documents (including Schedule K-1s, Form 1099, and Form 1042-S)
Direct tax provision processes and interim/annual income tax provisions under ASC 740; maintain robust internal controls and risk management
Manage international tax compliance, including filings for foreign partnerships (FATCA/CRS reporting), and oversee withholding requirements
Drive process improvements, tracking regulatory changes, and implementing technology and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Serve as the primary point of contact for investor tax inquiries, ensuring timely and comprehensive resolution
Coordinate with and advise portfolio companies on tax treatment, distributions, and partnership agreement allocations
Review, analyze, and communicate the impact of tax law changes on funds, investors, and the management company
Lead and execute special projects and support strategic fund structuring initiatives
Job Requirements
8-12+ years of tax experience within private equity, asset management, or an accounting firm supporting asset management clients
Solid understanding of partnership and corporate taxation, as well as reporting requirements for corporations and partnerships
Experience with limited partner tax reporting outside the US (e.g., UK, Germany) advantageous
Demonstrated expertise managing budgets, projects, and personnel, including direct team management
Ability to explain complex tax concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Familiarity with international reporting requirements, including FATCA/CRS and foreign partnership withholding
Strong analytical skills, and ability to manage compliance and special projects in a fast-paced environment
Effective written and oral communication skills
This role is based in Greenwich, CT, requiring four days in-office per week.
The annual base salary range is $300,000 to $500,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
