Teacher assistants support classroom instruction and help create a structured, positive learning environment. Duties commonly include assisting the lead teacher with daily activities, preparing and organizing classroom materials, supervising students during lessons and transitions, reinforcing instructions, and helping maintain an orderly classroom. They may also support attendance routines, basic recordkeeping, and student safety throughout the school day. A typical baseline requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent, along with patience, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow lesson plans and classroom procedures. Experience working with children is often useful. The work may involve sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving between classroom areas, as well as occasional light lifting of supplies or learning materials. Schedule is generally aligned with the school day and may include some additional time for preparation, meetings, or student supervision as needed.
