Building Porter

The Building Porter supports the day-to-day upkeep of a residential or commercial property in the Bronx by helping keep common areas clean, orderly, and safe. Typical duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, collecting trash, wiping surfaces, monitoring supply levels, and assisting with light maintenance tasks such as changing bulbs, reporting leaks, and moving materials as needed. The role may also involve checking building entrances, helping maintain sidewalks or loading areas, and responding to routine custodial requests from supervisors or residents. Baseline qualifications usually include prior janitorial or porter experience, the ability to follow instructions, basic knowledge of cleaning tools and chemicals, and dependable attendance. Good communication skills and a service-oriented approach are important. Physical work is customary and may require standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying moderate weights throughout the shift. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may include weekdays, weekends, or evening hours depending on building needs.
