Leaders High School, part of NYC Public Schools, is hiring a Community Assistant to support student, family and community engagement programs at its Brooklyn campus.

Working under the supervision of the Principal and/or Assistant Principal, the Community Assistant will help coordinate programs and activities designed to strengthen relationships between students, families, school staff and community organizations.

The position is a full-time, 12-month assignment with a 35-hour workweek.

Key Responsibilities

Support school programs focused on student engagement, parent involvement and community outreach
Assist with community programs that provide services and opportunities to students
Help plan student activities, including after-school programs and college visits
Support the Principal and school staff with community outreach initiatives
Assist with after-school performances and community engagement activities
Help develop projects that increase opportunities and participation for students and families
Serve as a liaison between the school and community organizations
Assist with school program and community event calendars
Maintain positive relationships with students, families, staff and community partners

Qualifications

Candidates should have:

Ability to communicate effectively in English
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Experience working with families and parents on educational or community-related issues
Experience related to community engagement or similar responsibilities
Familiarity with the New York City public school system
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.

Schedule

This is a 12-month, 35-hour-per-week assignment. Candidates should be flexible with their schedule, as occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends may be necessary depending on school and community activities.

Compensation

New hire rate: $37,697 per year
Eligible incumbents with two years of continuous full-time City service: $43,353–$48,901 per year
