The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is hiring a Motor Vehicle Representative 1 for its Queens South Road Testing Unit in Jamaica, Queens.

This full-time, entry-level position involves providing customer service to members of the public seeking information and assistance with DMV services, including licenses, registrations, identification, testing, insurance, penalties, hearings and related programs.

The role requires strong communication skills, comfort working directly with the public and the ability to use multiple computer applications at the same time.

Key Responsibilities

Assist customers in person and by telephone
Provide information about DMV licenses, registrations, identification, testing and other services
Use multiple computer applications simultaneously
Process customer payments, including cash, checks and credit card transactions
Maintain and process documents, license plates, registration stickers and other controlled items
Operate office equipment such as scanners, photocopiers, calculators and telecommunications systems
Answer customer calls through a telephone support system
Handle difficult or confrontational interactions calmly and professionally
Maintain accurate records and provide clear information to customers

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and meet one of the following requirements:

At least one year of customer service experience working directly with the general public in a face-to-face or call center environment, OR
At least 30 college semester credit hours

Because this position is being filled through the NY HELPS program, no Civil Service examination is required for eligible applicants.
